Deanna Duffy is one of Lend A Hand of Boulder City’s amazing volunteers. She originally used our service, and then became a volunteer.
Deanna says,”When I first started volunteering with Lend A Hand, it was for me. I was just finishing Physical Therapy and I knew that if I didn’t find something to keep me up and moving around I would backslide. I’d lose strength and health. Driving for Lend A Hand seemed like a good compromise. I would be getting in and out of the car, up and down in waiting room seats, walk people to and from buildings. I would be up and moving, but not doing anything strenuous. And then a weird thing happened. I learned things about myself. It turns out, I liked to drive.
Who knew? I’m not actually as much of an introvert as I thought. I had no clue. And then, I started seeing the same people again and again, and I got to know them. I have met, and become friends with, so many people, that I would never have met without Lend A Hand.
Sometimes I’m asked what do I love about what I do, the simple answer is I love helping people. I’ve been asked what my biggest frustration is with what I do, that answer is not being able to help enough. Lend A Hand is here to help people and being able to do that is wonderful.”
