OK, this is a fun story we thought you’d like to read about. Rail Explorers CEO, Mary Joy Lu, worked with a local welding and fabrication company here in town, Sparc to create a new ticket office and retail shop – and we just love what they came up with!
So you’re looking at about a ~20 foot shipping container, that had previously been used at a golf course. But it didn’t really scream ‘railway’ to Mary Joy. So, in thinking about what might fit better at the Nevada Southern Railway where they operate, (601 Yucca Street) she reached out to local innovators at Sparc, and together they created something really cool!
We popped in at Sparc yesterday and chatted with their team, pictured above (left to right) Kyle, Angel, Christy, and Damien to get the scoop.
The only thing the original shipping container had on it were the windows and the door. All of the rest has been added to make it look like it’s a caboose, including the floor on the front back, the wheels (which turn) and the upper ladder, rails and cupola on the top, just like a real car would have.
Also, catch the Rail Explorers etching across the top, creating the sun and shadow effect that displays their name. Plus at night the whole thing lights up and really makes it sing. Even better, they insulated this baby – it was actually nice and cool when we stepped inside even without it’s AC running.
Great job to the creativity of all involved – re-purposing something into a completely functional space that gives their brand such a great presence out on our Railroad! We hear it should deliver to the Rail Explorers location early next week!
