A Tour of St. Thomas This Month at Lake Mead

There’s a lot of great stuff happening at Lake Mead this February 2018, but one of the high lights for certain is the coming guided Ranger Hike through the abandoned town of St. Thomas on February 10th, at 9:00am. Details are here for you:

Join a ranger and volunteers on Feb. 10 and walk back in time to the days before the waters of Lake Mead covered the small farming community of St. Thomas. Explore the remnants of life in earlier times and learn about the lifestyles of times gone by. For more information and to register, call 702-293-8990.

Here’s a super neat little 6-minute video with all you ever wanted to know about St. Thomas, Nevada — the town that was flooded 60 feet under water when Lake Mead began filling in 1935.

The video shows the town when it did exist (through photos), an artist’s video animation of what the flooding would have looked like and what the town looks like today, now that Lake Mead’s low levels have exposed the town again (since 2002). Enjoy!

Other Events at Lake Mead this month include:

Stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Feb. 3 to learn about the variety of public lands that surround the Las Vegas Valley. For more information, call 702-293-8990.
