Here’s some big news … Bank of America customers began receiving notices in the mail this week that the Boulder City branch on Nevada Hwy. will close its doors on July 12th (2016). With the next closest branch being on Boulder Highway in Henderson, it will be quite a bit less convenient for many.
I don’t typically editorialize here on BC Social with my own personal experiences, but I really want to weigh in with how happy I’ve been since moving my accounts from Bank of America to the Boulder Dam Credit Union (this was about two years ago). Not that B of A had done anything wrong to make me move … it just made the most sense after I learned more about how credit unions operate in general.
For example, credit unions are not-for-profit and member-owned, so profits made come back to us (you know, “We … the People”) and there are no fees for typical banking services like checking/savings account, credit/debit cards, etc. Minimum balance? $5 per account … who can’t swing that?
And frankly, BDCU puts so much money back into the community through sponsorships of special events and community improvement … it’s hard not to support them with my business and feel great about it.
Anyway – there’s the big news of the day — no more B of A in BC and my rare, but personal feedback that you might want to check out your local CU if you will be looking for a new local financial institution!
