On Tuesday, February 23, the Clark County School District announced plans for returning all students to some form of in-classroom instruction, while preserving its distance learning resources for students and families who prefer that option.

The news was met with happiness and relief by many students and their families in our community. Recently, a parent meeting was held at Soda at the Nest. Monday night, approximately 50 parents and some students attended a meeting hosted by Mary Smith. During the parent meeting, attendees heard from Pania Carver, who provided details of a recent conversation with Boulder City’s newly elected School Board Trustee, Lisa Guzmán. Parents voiced several frustrations with the current distance learning and have been providing feedback to each school’s administration and district staff.

As was previously announced a few days ago HERE, pre-Kindergarten thru third grade students would be returning to classrooms part-time, beginning Monday, March 1. Expansion of the Hybrid Learning Plan was further extended to students in grades 6, 9 and 12 on March 22. Grades 7, 8, 10 and 11 will begin hybrid instruction on April 6. Coincidentally, all elementary grade students (pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5) will return to full in-classroom instruction on that date as well.

The District also announced the resumption of high school athletics with competition to begin on Friday, April 16 for spring sports like baseball, softball, track and field, swimming, diving, boys golf and boys volleyball. An intramural season for off season sports like football, soccer, tennis, cross country, girls volleyball will be staggered to all students to compete in more than one intramural sport. All competitions are closed to spectators due to COVID-19 protocols.

The District has completed a Comprehensive Health and Safety protocol to adapt to potential COVID-19 exposures to keep students and staff safe. One such feature is a sick room, separate from the traditional First Aid/Nurse’s Office on each campus. Staff in the sick rooms will be fully equipped with personal protective equipment.
