Boulder City’s Local Interact Clubs – Working Behind the Scenes…

Interact Kids Boulder City, Nevada

You’ve probably seen these youths at various events around town, but maybe didn’t know what they were up to…

Rotary International sponsors what are called Interact Clubs worldwide, and to quote their mission directly from the web site, they “bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self.”

“Service Above Self” is the Rotary Motto, just to give you that info…

Some fun facts: There are currently 20,372 Interact Clubs in 159 countries, and have 468,556 Interact members, currently. WOW – that’s a lot of Interacting!

So now, bringing you back home to Boulder City, we thought you’d like to know about our local clubs. There’s one at Garret Jr. High as well as at Boulder City High School.

The kids from our local clubs are always busy. They put in volunteer service hours with various fundraising events with both local Rotary Clubs (Boulder City Sunrise and Rotary Club of Boulder City) as well as Four Square helping with meals, various cleanup projects, gathering supplies for the homeless – you name it. Recently they helped Sunrise Rotary on a project updating the Yellow Ribbon Signs on Veteran’s Memorial Drive.

The kids from both clubs have to qualify to participate, and put in at least 10 hours of volunteer time per quarter, and 40 hours/year.

Christa May is the Interact Advisor for Garrett JHS, and Barbara Agostini, is the High School Interact Advisor, pictured above with a few members of the BCHS group. Barbara says our local kids always find activities to take on, and love to see the results of their work.

Beyond the service component, the youths also participate in leadership camps and are eligible for scholarships, all sponsored by the local Rotary Clubs. For more information, or if you have a possible service project, you can reach out to either of the club advisors at their local schools.
