We’ve known this was perking in the background for a while, and then last week when suddenly (at least as far as most of us were concerned…) work started clearing the lot at the corner of Boulder City Pkwy. and Buchanan Blvd., it created quite the local uproar on social media. So, here’s the scoop, such as we know it at this point.
- Yes, this will be a new 7-11 location.
- This new store is not slated to open until sometime in 2021 – a relatively long ways away.
- It is currently planned to be a new, modern-style 7-11 store, an updated version from the stores we currently have, and will be a gas station and convenience store.
- 7-11 is expanding into many areas of Southern Nevada – not just in Boulder City.
- The corporation is leasing this land from the current owner, a developer I haven’t bothered to look up at this point.
As to the question of who will take over the actual franchise at this location – we all need to be patient, as these details are still being worked out, and are in flux as we speak.
The current owners of the Nevada Way 7-11 location do have the ‘right of first refusal’ on this spot, but at this point, it is unclear if they will indeed move from their existing locale into this one. They are actively negotiating with the 7-11 corporation as to the terms of how/if this might happen.
It seems that this all came about because of a number of factors. This spot, as most of you know used to be an AM/PM station, but has been vacant now for many years. The land has recently become of interest to a number of different retail gas/convenience store chains, and the 7-11 corporation who has been expanding their profile recently, decided to hop on the opportunity to grab this up, rather than it going to a potential competitor. Thus, creating a situation where they have begun work, but the actual franchise ownership details are not yet worked out.
So folks, this is one of those moments where we’ll all just have to remain patient, and let the parties involved sort this out in it’s due time. We’ll keep you posted of course as we hear updates on the status of things. For now, keep shopping local in town and support ALL our local retailers!
