Oh, 2020 you continue to challenge us in ever increasing ways!
A few weeks back we shared that the Damboree committee had cancelled the parade and most of the events we normally have in Boulder City to celebrate the 4th of July. But at that time they were uncertain about the fireworks display annually put in out at Veteran’s Memorial Park.
We’ve recently learned that they will have to unfortunately cancel this portion of the event as well. According to the President of the committee, Dawn Green, they deeply regret having to make this judgement call but she says, “Due to the limits of public gatherings set by our Governor and the guidelines set by the CDC, we cannot hold our annual Fourth of July Celebrations. Even though we anticipate our numbers to advance past 50 people per gathering we know it will not go to 1,000. In the past we have had a minimum of 8,000 – 10,000 at the park for fireworks. It would be irresponsible for us to shoot off fireworks knowing it would draw a crowd larger than the state has sanctioned.”
So for those who do wish to celebrate this day, we recommend you gather in family and groups within whatever the State will be allowing at that time, and to please celebrate responsibly.
To do your own thing, as of now, we know of one fireworks stand that will be sponsored as a fundraiser for the local Lions Club out at the Rebel Gas Station, located at 1665 Boulder City Pkwy. It will be open from July 1 – 4th, hours from 10am – 10pm.
Pancake Breakfast
The Rotary Club of Boulder City will still do it’s annual Pancake Breakfast on the 4th of July from 7am – 9am, but on a drive-up basis!
To participate, drive or walk up to the parking lot of the Senior Center of Boulder City (813 Arizona St.) but enter on G Street. The Rotary Club members along with volunteers from the Senior Center will be cooking inside and will be able to bring out your order(s) and keep the traffic flowing on both sides of the building.
They’ll be serving pancakes, sausages and the fixings with coffee or juice. This is always on an ‘open donation’ basis and any proceeds after their costs will benefit the Senior Center!
So start your morning early this Independence Day as you normally would, and support these great organizations with a great breakfast. Then make your way home or sit in the shade at one of our beautiful parks and enjoy!
