About a week ago, Jill Lagan (from the Chamber) mentioned to me that the information about a proposed Downtown Beautification Project was provided on the Public Works Director’s City of Boulder City web page.
I’d already seen a presentation on this by Jim Keane and it was actually featured as the cover story of the Boulder City Review a couple weeks back…but I still figured it was great content to send out on Boulder City Social.
I contacted Scott Hansen at Public Works and asked him if I could reprint what he wrote on the Public Works web page and he very graciously said yes…plus, he sent me two PDF’s of the concept images. They’re artistic renderings at this stage of the project – but they’re very helpful in understanding what the proposed design would be (besides being just beautiful). The rendering you see at the start of this post is the corner of Nevada Hwy and Buchanan…looking down Nevada Hwy (so Starbucks/Albertsons is to the left and that’s the Shell station you are seeing behind the car).
Below is a direct copy/paste of Scott’s web page and then larger images of the two renderings. Be sure to click on each of them and you’ll get MUCH larger images in PDF. Scott, thanks a ton for sharing all this with all of our Fans & Subscribers!
Message from the Director:
As I drive Nevada Way from Buchanan Boulevard into our downtown area, the impression I get is a State Highway that was turned over to the City in 1987 and very little has been done since. From a public perception standpoint, this is the most important roadway I am responsible for. This is where motorist begin to form opinions of Boulder City. I feel it is my responsibility to reconstruct this street segment in a manner that conveys our message to people entering our community.
The City hired Nevada by Design to prepare the concepts you see below. The full size poster boards are located outside the City Council Chambers in City Hall. These concepts show a dream of what Nevada Way would look like in an ideal situation. It is going to take a lot of hard work to get from the State Highway look of today to a more aesthetically pleasing look similar to what is depicted below.
We held our first public meeting on January 12, 2011 to present these concepts and solicit feedback. A committee has been formed to help guide this project from the concept stage to the design stage. Jill Lagan, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce (293-2034), has volunteered to lead this committee.
The Public Works Department wants to hear your thoughts and concerns regarding the concepts. You may email us by clicking the words “Contact Form” on the left side of the page located here or by calling 293-9200. When you are giving us feedback, once in a while trick us up and tell us something you like.
Scott P. Hansen, P.E.
Public Works Director
