Boulder City Hospital is hosting a free workshop for patients and their families who want to learn how to manage the effects of diabetes, which now affects approximately 8 out of 100 people.
The workshop will take place at the Hospital, Tuesday, August 23 at 3 p.m. The program is free but space is limited and registration is required, so to reserve your space or learn more about the program, call 702-557-1971.
The program will be led by Ariana Santo, a board certified diabetes instructor and has more than one thousand hours of diabetes education experience. On the agenda will be a discussion about the latest trend in diabetes information and explain the different types of diabetes as well as the different types of treatment and tests. Santo will also discuss good blood sugar control and symptoms related to high or low blood sugar levels, as well as the importance of meal planning and regular physical activity.
According to the American Diabetes Association there are an estimated 25.8 million people who are living with diabetes in the United States. Diabetes is a chronic, or lifelong, disease that is characterized by high levels of sugar in the blood. Left untreated, diabetes can lead to serious health problems. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure. The disease can also lead to blindness and neuropathy in adults.
