Ranger Hike: Bowl of Fire, Nov 10

Join a ranger Nov. 10 for a four-mile morning hike through the Bowl of Fire. This moderate to strenuous hike offers views of various colorful Aztec sandstone formations. Dogs are not permitted. Space is limited. For more information and to make a reservation, call 702-293-8990.

Author Reading: “Lords of St. Thomas,” Nov 10

Join author Jackson Ellis at 1 p.m. Nov. 10 for a reading from his historical novel, based on the 1938 flooding of St. Thomas, Nevada. “Lords of St. Thomas” tells the story of a family who refused to evacuate the town as the waters of Lake Mead were nearing their doorsteps. Jackson will also provide a brief overview of St. Thomas’ history and present-day status as a ghost town situated within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. For more information, call 702-293-8990

Volunteer Event: Native Plant Nursery Work Day, Nov 10

Join a ranger to help with the native plant nursery work day. Volunteers will be transplanting seedlings and cleaning seeds that will be used in restoration efforts around the park. To register, call 702-293-8711 or email LAKE_Volunteer_Coordinator@nps.gov. Registration is limited to 20 people.

Join a ranger at 11: 30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Lake Mead Visitor Center and learn about the animals and plants that call this vibrant desert home. From the desert bighorn sheep found in the rugged mountains to the smallest beavertail cactus, life is abundant and thriving in what many think is a barren landscape. BBSC Turkey Trot, Nov 22

Ranger Program: St. Thomas – A Town Revealed, Nov 27

Join a ranger from 3 – 4 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Paseo Verde Library in Henderson, Nevada, and step back in time to the days before Lake Mead covered this unique farming community. Learn about the lifestyles of the people who lived in this small town. For more information, call 702-293-8990.

Holiday Parade, Dec 1

Join rangers and volunteers at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 1 as they participate in the Boulder City Santa’s Electric Night parade. Stop by the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Headquarters for s’mores during the parade. For more information, call 702-293-8990.

Holiday Open House, Dec 8

Join rangers from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Lake Mead Visitor Center for the annual Holiday Open House. Enjoy the desert discovery center and learn about public lands throughout the day. BBSC Hover Dam Marathon, Dec 9
