If you or someone you know is not working and struggling to pay their rent, there is new assistance available from the State of Nevada from the CARES Act. They say they have up to $30 million available in funds.
The eviction moratorium that was put in place by the Governor back in March, will expire September 1. The State estimates that between 100,000 and 130,000 rent payments have been missed by Nevadan’s since the mandated state business closures were announced, and employers both large and small throughout Clark County had to lay off workers.
Now, with our shutdown situations in the state not greatly improving and Payroll Protection Plan funds running low, more businesses announced more layoffs just this week.
We’re sheltered somewhat here in Boulder City compared to Las Vegas, but many locals have struggled. We spoke to Bret Runion of Desert Sun Realty and he told us, “the Desert Sun Realty Property Manager, Anna Marie Argenio, is staying up to date on all aspects of the current regulations and possible assistance from the state and other organizations. Some of our tenants and our home owners have definitely been affected.”
If a tenant is struggling to pay their rent, they can apply for the program online. If approved, the funds to help fill the gap in payment are paid directly to the landlord so that they can continue to make their mortgage payments.
If you are a Homeowner, Renter or Landlord, you can learn more HERE. Funds are available on a first-come-first-serve basis, and they don’t have to be paid back by the tenant. However do note, that you do have to show bank records, pay stubs, tax returns and proof that the hardship has been caused by the COVID-19 shutdown.
We hope few of Boulder City’s residents will need the help, but if you do or someone you know does, we want to be sure you know how to take advantage of it.
You can only apply via one agency at a time, (don’t apply to multiple agencies at once), and your local contact in Boulder City is Emergency Aid of Boulder City, and you can also seek info on the City of Boulder City’s web site as well.
