Lake Mead Events Sept Boulder City, Nevada

Here’s what is happening down at Lake Mead for the month of September (and a bit beyond). We’ve got a hint for ya – the moon and the stars take center stage this month! The full listing is below.

Ranger Chat: Public Lands – Southern Nevada Treasures, Sept 8
Stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. or 1 p.m. Sept. 8 to learn about the variety of public lands that surround the Las Vegas Valley. For more information, call 702-293-8990.

Ranger Program:  Star Party – Chasing the Stars, Sept 15
Join rangers and the Las Vegas Astronomical Society at the Boulder Beach Amphitheater at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 to learn about the night sky and discuss celestial features. Telescope viewing of distant constellations and far-away planets will be available from 7:30 – 10 p.m. For more information and to make a reservation, call 702-293-8990.

Ranger Chat: The Mojave Desert-A Magical Land, Sept 16
Stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 16 to learn about this vibrant desert home. From the desert bighorn sheep found in the rugged mountains to the smallest beavertail cactus, life is abundant and thriving in what many think is a barren landscape. Ranger Chat: Outdoor Fun-A Child’s Nature Perspective, Sept 17
Stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 17 to learn about a variety of ways children can learn about Lake Mead National Recreation Area and get in touch with nature. For more information, call 702-293-8990.

Fee Free Day, Sept 22
Entrance fees will be waived at Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sept. 22 in celebration of National Public Lands Day. Fees for camping, lake use or use of concessions still apply.

Volunteer Clean-up: National Public Lands Day, Sept 22
Join rangers and come be a part of the National Public Lands Day litter cleanup 9 a.m.- noon Sept. 22. The focus will be on cleaning an area of the park that was heavily visited this summer. Any volunteer participating will receive a voucher to visit any federal public land for free at a later date. Join a park ranger at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 22 to learn about America’s National Parks. For more information, call 702-293-8990.

Ranger Program: Full Moon Hike, Sept 28
Join rangers for a night hike from 7-9 p.m. Sept. 28 on the Historic Railroad Trail. Enjoy a moonlit night while learning about lunar tales and constellations. For more information and to make a reservation, call 702-293-8990. Space is Limited.

Stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 29 to learn about the variety of public lands that surround the Las Vegas Valley. For more information, call 702-293-8990.

BBSC Las Vegas Triathlon, Sept 29
Around 700 triathletes will race though Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sept. 29 for the BBSC Las Vegas Triathlon. The race has many distance options available, including individual and relay. The swim portion of the race takes place at Boulder Beach. Then, athletes will bike along Lakeshore Road and Northshore Road, turn around points for each distance will be marked. Visitors to Lake Mead may experience delays. During the race, the bicycle course in Lake Mead National Recreation Area is an open road. Please use caution when driving alongside cyclists. Share the road, and do not pass in no passing zones. Cyclists are reminded that they must bike in single file on the roadways. Cycling abreast is not permitted within the park. Ranger Chat: Fishing Tips, Oct. 6
Want to fish at Lake Mead, but don’t know where to start? Join a Nevada Department of Wildlife ranger at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 6 to learn about fishing gear, bait and places to fish on the lake. For more information, call 702-486-5127, ext. 3850.

Lake Mead Birthday Celebration, Oct 8
Join rangers at the Lake Mead Visitor Center Oct. 8 to celebrate the 54th anniversary of the establishment of Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Birthday cake will be served at 12:30 p.m. For more information, call 702-293-8990.

Ranger Chat: Wildlife of Nevada, Oct 9
Join a Nevada Department of Wildlife ranger at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 9 to learn about the variety of wildlife living in the recreation area. The ranger will share tips about wildlife and answer questions about licenses and other regulations. For more information, call 702-293-8990.
