We got the chance to see a presentation by the two city staff members primarily responsible for the design of the Complete Street BC Pkwy. project – Keegan Littrell, P.E. and Jim Keane, P.E.
Most of us are very aware of the current construction, which we will have to deal with until next June. Currently, they tell us they are on track to meet their deadlines, so at least that is good news for the businesses and travelers in our area.
Above you’ll see the slides, showing the design concepts for a variety of sections along the Parkway. The goals were to in general beautify the area that is the first impression visitors see when they come into town. They also intend to create bike lanes, widen the sidewalks, and improve safety, as well as of course spiffing up the landscape.
What we hadn’t known, was that on the outermost area, that they were adding in the featured sculptures, matching the same work that was done on I-11, showing the Hoover Dam Construction Crew. Apparently they got the same outfit who created the first batch, to do similar ones for us on BC Parkway too.
How much does all this cost, and who’s paying for it? The RTC (Regional Transportation Commission) of Southern Nevada is picking up the biggest chunk, at $16,850,000. Then the NDOT (Nevada Department of Transportation) is contributing $640,000, and lastly the Boulder City Utility Fund is putting in $701,049.
We know there are a wide variety of opinions on this project, but we’re looking forward to seeing it finished and hope all continues to go well and wrap up on time, with great results for the businesses along the corridor. Welcome to Boulder City!
