Did you know we have a High School Rodeo Team? More than that – did you know our team is one of only 14 teams in the entire state of Nevada? (Gotcha there I bet…!) Because we didn’t know nearly enough about our rodeo team either until last week when we talked to one of their two Co-Directors, Gregg Carnes. Along with Scott Pastore (who many of you know as Officer Pastore of the BC Police and Mounted Police) they have been making some BIG progress with this team in the past couple of years…
Not that long ago this team was down to only 3 members but now they’ve grown to 14 members coming from the Boulder City High School as well as a few Middle School students.
Starting Friday, November 16th and running through Sunday the 18th they’ve got three full days of events that will include all of your standard roping, bronco and bull riding, but they also have students participating in target shooting as well (on Friday afternoon at the BC Pistol and Rifle Club). We’ve got the full schedule for you HERE so you can see what interests you the most, and most importantly – THE EVENT IS FREE! The Boulder City team will be competing against youths from all over the state, so it goes way beyond our local area. Most events will take place at the Main Arena at the BC Horseman’s Association (1 Corral Road, Boulder City, NV).
They will also have food and beverages for sale at the arena along with a Silent Auction. You can learn more about them on the High School Rodeo Team website. It’s a great way to get youths active and involved in a variety of activities and some locals have made this a great way to earn scholarships into college. What we also found interesting is that you don’t even need to own a horse! The team has their own resources and horses to compete with.
We’d say, if you haven’t been, it’s time to maybe take a gander this weekend at the fun out at the horse arena in town!
