The Daily Planet…We Are Not

A Newspaper in Boulder City, NVWow…we’re coming up on our 1-year anniversary of the Boulder City Facebook Page (with a Fan count of 2,116, by the way) and our 3-week anniversary of the Boulder City Social website…pretty cool!

Sounds like a good time to clarify that although the launch of the website expands what we’re doing, it’s not in the direction of being a news organization…we have a local newspaper for that.  In fact, with the Shop Local feature of the website launching soon — we’re heading more in the “business promotion” direction, with the Chamber’s blessing and assistance, of course.

Sure, a lot of posts on the page (from Fans and from me) are little snippets of news and opinions on news from around town…what I like to think of as online cocktail party chit-chat.  And occasionally, it’s something that’s even newsworthy…but 99% of the time, we’re just sharing news and socializing about it…not reporting it, checking facts, covering town politics, getting both sides of a story, and all the wonderful other things that go along with responsible journalism.

The content of our Facebook page (and now our website) has always been the fun, positive things happening in our great little town, promoting the events, supporting our local businesses and the occasional “word on the street” gossip.  We don’t do the news…but know that if there IS real news to report, the most you’ll find here is that there is an article in the newspaper you might be interested in checking out.

BTW, there is an interesting story by Jack Johnson in this week’s Boulder City Review about the proposed Downtown Beautification Project.  I heard City Engineer Jim Keane speak about it at the Noon Rotary meeting a few weeks back and it was super interesting.

For Fans who live outside of Boulder City and want to stay up to date on the actual news in town, you can still subscribe to the Boulder City Review in either their print or online version.  You can also become a Fan of their Facebook page where teasers of the news stories are published each week, although you have to be a subscriber to get login credentials and read the whole story on their website.

p.s. if you got this far and are still wondering what the post’s title means — it’s a Superman reference and time to dig out the good old DC Comics collection!  🙂
