If you’re unaware, our local born and raised Olympic shooter is headed back to the games in Paris, 2024. The festivities begin Friday, July 26th and run thru August 11th. This weekend we got to sit down with Lexi, along with her parents Jill and Barry to chat.
Lexi competes internationally in Women’s Sport Pistol and Women’s Air Pistol which is a competitive sport recognized all over the world and is part of the Olympics. Lagan competed in her first Olympics in 2020 in Tokyo.
In qualifying for this year’s Olympics means she is one of two shooters from the US competing and one of only forty such competitors at this year’s event.
We asked her what would be different about this year. He first answer was experience, but also, that everything would be different. In 2020 because of the Pandemic the housing and competitions were significantly impacted by the Pandemic, and the way the games rolled out in Japan.
Back then, Lexi was on her own without her family like all many of the other athletes. This time, her family gets to come to France with her and the entire experience will be fully open.
She says she is excited to see how she handles the stress of competition. What she learned the last time about the mental game of sport and how to continually leverage that into a better performance.
Complicating that, is the weapon she has used and trained with for most of these prior seasons broke about three weeks ago. So, she has been breaking in a brand-new pistol in her recent training and competitions since then. And how will compete in Paris with that same new weapon.
Her competition begins the day after opening ceremonies! Which unfortunately means she won’t be walking and participating in that event to prepare for her match and the travel time the next day.
The national shooting center in France is where the competition will be held and is a three-hour drive south of Paris.
The competition for the opening round of shooting is that first day on July 27th. If she advances to the finals that will take place the next day on the 28th.
How can we watch? Team Lagan (aka, her mom, dad and husband) all say they’ll do their best to keep us posted. Her website is here: https://teamlagan.com/. So watch that and we’ll try to share what we know.
Lagan admits that the sport is not necessarily the most compelling ‘made for TV’ viewing as it’s hard to see the targets and how each shooter is performing. Again, when we know – you’ll know or at least we’ll do our best given the distance and time zones.
We asked her what Boulder City means to her. “I’m so proud of this community and that I got to grow up here and return for visits. Getting to be part of this huge stage is such an honor and I really feel the support of the community backing me. It’s so special to call this home!”
Back you we do Lexi – this whole community is so very proud of you and honored to call you one of ours. GO LEXI GO!
