May is Historic Preservation Month and the City is currently accepting nominations for the annual Historic Preservation Award. This is the fifteenth anniversary of the award, which highlights notable areas within the City’s Historic District. Links to last year’s winner can be found by clicking below:
2024 Winner: Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) Lodge Building

To qualify for the award, the property must be within the city’s historic district and “maintain and enhance the architectural, historical, and cultural heritage of Boulder City”. Additionally, the award will be given to the property that best meets the following criteria:
- he property must be located within the Boulder City Historic District.
- The award is based on the exterior of the building / property, as readily visible from the street.
- The award is open to all properties and/or features (residential, commercial, institutional, religious, parks, landscapes, streetscapes, and so on).
- The award can be for a historically appropriate remodel, addition, or new construction, or for an excellent example of preservation or restoration.
- The award will not be based on the number of nominations for a property.
The Historic Preservation Commission will review the nominations submitted and select the awardee in late March or early April. As such, all nominations must be submitted through Sunday, March 16, 2024. The award recipient(s) will receive a plaque and certificate from the Historic Preservation Commission and City Council in May. They will also be recognized with video broadcast on BCTV that will be posted to the City’s website and social media accounts during May.
