4 Years, 48 Months, 1,461 Days: Make It Count

New school year, new classes, new teachers, new responsibilities, and somehow, you're expected to figure it all out. Whether you're a freshman walking into a new school or a senior counting down the days until graduation, every student has something they wish they had known sooner.

To create the ultimate school year survival guide, I asked students across the campus their best advice about classes, friendships, extracurriculars, stress, teachers, and making the most of the school year. Here's what students say can make the difference between simply getting through the year and actually enjoying it.

"I would tell my younger self that life shouldn't be stressful, it should be fun. So stop taking everything so seriously. For classes, write things down, prioritize assignments based on due dates and don't procrastinate." Senior, Abby Dascalu.

Friends come with kindness, choose ones who make you feel loved. Sophomore, Zia Fisher, said, "Choose your friends on who's nice, not just popular."

"To be honest, I like being a busy person and I feel I over commit myself a lot, but it can be a lot to take on so sometimes I will ask others for help to take some things off my plate for me. I think what surprised me most about the school year is realizing how much of a community we have at our school and how it's fun to be involved." Sophomore, Laylani Gubler.

"I try to get most of my stuff done during school, so I can have fun outside of school. When I get stressed I like to do something for myself to reset, like going out with my friends." Junior, Bryce Skramstad.

Junior Hanna Tibbs said, "Teachers are people too, they aren't trying to be strict, they want their students to succeed, listen to your teachers and be kind."

"Get involved and talk to everybody, don't exclude anyone and make everyone feel welcome, have fun." Senior, Bella Battistone.

At the end of the day, there's no perfect way to get through high school. Stay organized, surround yourself with good people, ask for help when you need it, and most importantly, get involved and enjoy the moments along the way. High school goes by faster than you think, so make the most of every memory, you only get these four years once.
