Today is the day we remember the sad passing of one of Hoover Dam’s most beloved laborers … the stray puppy that was collectively adopted by the workers and eventually became the mascot of Hoover Dam.
It seems that a black labrador mix puppy was born on the construction site and naturally, the workers began feeding and taking care of it. He belonged to no single man and soon became a much loved and loyal companion of all the construction workers, even riding the trucks with them to and from the various project sites.
Sadly, on this day 75 year ago, after seeking out a shady spot under a work-site truck, he was run over and killed. Workers were apparently so distraught that they created a tomb and buried him near where the tour center is located today, so the next time you visit, you can look for his plaque and give it a pat…
