We chose this to be our Fan Photo this week, not only because it’s a really cool shot from a drones-eye-view of the dry lake bed. But also because it happens to relate back to an issue that goes before the City Council tonight.
First off, do take a second to take in the expanse of that – it really is an awesome asset for us here in Boulder City. It’s not the only one in our area, but it is one of the most used and well known.
But now, back to the matter at hand. Item #11 (Packet for you HERE) on tonight’s City Council meeting will be a discussion to potentially lease a portion of that land to Silver Peak Solar, LLC.
The above drone shot was taken when the City of Boulder City set up a false barrier to let the Council get a bird’s eye view (via the drone footage) to judge for themselves how much of an impact that had visually to the lake bed. They did this a few weeks ago in a post we told you about here.
What’s at stake is to keep the 276 acres as is, or if they decide to go with the solar lease, that would be $9.9 million dollars of revenue to Boulder City over the next 30 years. Payments start out at $276,000 the first year, and increase incrementally each year.
So, we encourage all citizens to make their voices heard, whether you’re pro or con on this issue. We’ll see what the City Council decides to do this evening!
