Not directly related to Boulder City – but kinda sorta, in that a fan sent me some interesting stats to share on how many tickets were handed out to people still using their cell phones (in a non- hands-free way)!
I don’t know about you – but I see it a LOT on the street of BC.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says it gave out nearly 12,000 tickets last year to people using cell phones while driving.
Doesn’t sound like there were a lot of repeat offenders though — as only 30 were cited for their second offense and 25 were super bummed to be on their third offense. Wow – that’s a LOT of first-offenders who probably decided to pony up for a Bluetooth!
So here’s a reminder breakdown of fines you’ll face if you violate the “Unlawful Text/Sent/Read/Talk Cell Phone law here in Boulder City:
- First Offense (484B.1654A) = $192 and it’s a misdemeanor + a non-moving violation
- Second Offense (484B.1654B) = $302 and it’s a misdemeanor + a moving violation
- Third Offense (484B.1654C) = $637 and it’s a misdemeanor, a moving violation and if it took place within 7 years of the first violation, results in a six (6) month suspension of your driver’s license.
Makes a Bluetooth sound like a screamin’ deal.
