Various locations in Boulder City will be the sites of America’s Walking Club’s 50th Anniversary. The Las Vegas High Rollers and Strollers, the local affiliate, has selected Bootleg Canyon Park and Veterans Memorial Park as the locations of the walks. There are seventeen walks planned throughout the country over the next twelve months.
Here is more information about the southwest regional walk in Boulder City:
The first event Friday January 9 will walk the Historic Railroad Tunnels Trail in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, a gravel and dirt trail through five mountain tunnels where the old railroad track was used to deliver materials for the Hoover Dam construction. Walkers will also see panoramic views of Lake Mead and its mountain setting. People can join the group walk at 9:00AM, or walk anytime on their own.
Saturday January 10, Bootleg Canyon Park is the site for walkers to see giant animals, and views of both the Las Vegas Valley and Lake Mead. The journey continues on the wide-paved River Mountain Loop Trails, and the Boulder City Parkway. On the way back to the park, walkers will pass the Nevada State Museum and Fisher Space Pen. Group walk is at 9:00AM, or people can walk on their own.
Sunday January 11, the walk begins at Veterans Memorial Park, with a group walk at 9:00AM. Visitors will wander among this beautiful 25-acre park, with 2 ponds and multiple walking paths interspersed with several sports fields plus the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Each walk costs $4, plus a one-time $10 registration fee to join the club. The check in location each day is the Best Western Hoover Dam at 704 Nevada Way. All walkers must check in there before proceeding to the walk locations.
AVA: America’s Walking Club is a nationwide non-profit organization that promotes health and wellness by organizing walking events to encourage lifelong fun, fitness and friendship for all ages and abilities.
