Banners Featuring Student Artwork to be Installed

In what has become an annual tradition, fifth grade students from local schools have created artwork that will be featured on utility poles in the Historic Boulder City neighborhoods. Main Street Boulder City sponsored the project as a way to celebrate Historic Preservation Month in May. The 40 student-designed banners will be installed beginning today, Monday, April 27.

The winning banners were chosen through peer voting at MP King Elementary School and we think they did a great job of selecting the winning designs!

By including students in historic preservation efforts, the project actively seeks their participation in telling Boulder City's history through art. The students interpret various Boulder City stories and locations for recognition.

Historic Preservation Month is in May, and these banners are part of the wider effort to preserve stories and heritage in our charming town. The artwork can be seen at the Boulder City Library (701 Adams Boulevard) through May so members of the community can see the work for themselves. The top three student selections will be installed near City Hall (401 California Avenue).

Set aside Saturday, May 9 for the official Historic Preservation Day activities developed by the City. Meanwhile, as you're walking around downtown, look up at the utility poles and see the students' handiwork.
