Who is wicked smart? Two Boulder City residents are, apparently – because we can claim TWO semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program competition, which annually identifies the smartest 1 percent of America’s high school students based on their PSAT scores!
A BIG shout out goes to Patrick Vallely of Boulder City High School and another to Candace Childress, who is a proud Boulder City resident (or so I’m told) attending the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies and Performing Arts.
About 90 percent of all semifinalists will advance to the finals based on PSAT scores, high school grades and community involvement, after which they’ll have their chance at $32 million in scholarships.
Congrats, Patrick and Candace — we’re proud you call Boulder City home!!!
