Okay…we seem to be back on track now and Bill 1718 – the Boulder City Smoke Free Ordinance – will be up for public comment and a City Council vote at the very next meeting, which is Tuesday, August 27th, 2013.
I was curious as to the number of businesses in Boulder City that would be affected and so you know me…I’ll always get the scoop for ya, so here is it:
There are two bars that currently allow smoking (I’m thinking Back Stop, but I don’t know the other). There are 4 smoke shops that allow smoking (I don’t know of any of them except that one is in Marshall Plaza) and there are 11 hotel/motels that will need to make sure that at least 80% of their rooms are non-smoking (implying that 20% can be be smoking rooms, because I’m a math genius).
There are two other parts of this bill worth noting…it prohibits the establishment of “hookah lounges” in Boulder City going forward and also says that this bill is irreversible by the enactment of any state law that permits smoking in the aforementioned establishments (such fancy language, I know)!
So…the long and short of it is that we’ll have a vote either for or against on August 27th!
