The Best Dam Barbecue Challenge kicks off next week for Memorial Day weekend on Friday afternoon, May 23rd, 2025, in Bicentennial Park (on Colorado Street, near City Hall) from 12:00PM to 10:00PM. Then there’s another full day on Saturday, May 24th from 9:00AM to 5:00PM, ending with the final awards ceremony of the winner of the Best Dam Barbecue Challenge! Admission is FREE to the event so come on out and support the teams as they compete for $8500 in prizes. This is a state qualifier for the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational Barbecue, a highly sought after invite to one of the premier barbecue events in the United States. The event is judged by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, professionally trained judges, to select the best in each category: ribs, pork, brisket, chicken and the overall competition winners.
They will have live music on Friday night, and of course, the Kidz Zone, the Best Dam Car Show, Best Dam Bike Show, and plenty of beer, Bloody Marys, and barbecue to enjoy.
