Well, this is pretty dam exciting news here – Boulder City will be getting a new restaurant downtown in the long-vacant former Scratch House location! The lease has been signed so please join us in welcoming the Cornish Pasty Company to Boulder City!
This unique, small-chain eatery has been around since 2005 and has locations in Tempe, Mesa, Scottsdale and Flagstaff, AZ, and also one in Las Vegas. The owners have apparently been eyeing an expansion to a new location and it seems Boulder City fit their bill.
The menu is unique and will definitely be new for BC, which you can check out on their web site HERE. We just so happened to have dined at the Las Vegas location recently and can report the food was hearty and yummy and a dinner ‘pasty’ was enough for that meal and made a perfect leftover breakfast too! (I had the Guinness Stew) They also have vegan and vegetarian options, salads and other yummy stuff too, and of course one heck of a beer list plus other concoctions!
But what the heck is a ‘pasty’ you may ask? We’ve got a fun little explainer below for you from their web site. It’s history is not unlike the pizza slice, as that was a common grab-and-go lunch for workers in Italy, and this has similar home-baked origins to keep the Cornish mine workers fed while they toiled away.
There are some real reasons to celebrate. One is the obvious desire to see this key piece of real estate (located at 1300 Arizona St., across from the Boulder Dam Hotel) once again occupied for the first time since 2015 when the Scratch House pulled out. But even better we think is that this small but obviously successful chain of restaurants is willing to bet on Boulder City, and that is a WIN for all of us! We’ll keep you posted as they begin the process of moving into their new digs and will look forward to sharing more info with you as we have it. Cheers mate!
