“Hey, where’d the Goodwill donation truck go?”, said a friend of ours recently…and it looks like she’s not the only one who noticed, as a few of you posted this news on our Facebook page too.
Goodwill Industries of Southern Nevada filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy back on August 11th of this year, according to this article from the Las Vegas Review Journal.
When we checked the Goodwill web site and looked at listed locations, the Boulder City collection site is no longer on it. So, for now it looks like the donation truck is indeed, gone.
What is unclear is if this move was part of the restructuring required by the bankruptcy, or if this is possibly due to other activities happening at the shopping center. (Which are AWESOME and we’ll cover that tomorrow! Shameless plug…)
But in the meantime, we should probably not let this turn into a dumping ground. No doubt, there were a few folks who just thought maybe the truck would be back tomorrow and left their items…
So instead, let’s focus on the other local establishments we have here who DO need your donations – and we might add when we use their services – the proceeds help local non-profits! Among the ones we know of are:
- Experienced Merchandise
- Grace Community Church
- St. Jude’s Ranch for Children
Of the three, we do know that St. Jude’s recently expanded their Thrift Store, we did a piece on them a few months back, HERE. And they can pick up furniture! However, they emphasize that you need to contact them in advance and it needs to be screened to verify it’s in saleable condition.
