Catherine and Taylor Call haven’t lived in our community for a real long time, but we’re sure glad they’re here! They are the owners of Boulder City Shaved Ice Co and their cute pink and orange Sno Shack is up and ready to go to serve the needs of residents and visitors here in town. What do they serve? Often referred to as “snow cones”, these are a step up from the summer treat many of us remember. This is shaved ice, which isn’t hard and crunchy like those old snow cones were. They serve “Southern style” shaved ice which is around the middle of the snow cone spectrum. The ice is creamy and melty, but with some crunch to the treat. It absorbs the one of almost 50 flavors (including some sugar free ones) offered, instead of dripping down to the bottom (snow cone ice) or quickly turning into a syrupy mess the way Hawaiian shaved ice can in our climate.
Catherine grew up nearby in St. George, UT and worked at a similar store as a teenager. She and her husband, Taylor, thought the idea of a mobile snow cone business would fit perfectly with the small town atmosphere of Boulder City. We think they’re right! You’ll have a chance to taste for yourself in a couple weeks. They will be at Spring Jamboree (May 7 and 8) so make sure you add them to your itinerary as you stroll thru the parks.
While they look for a semi-permanent location for their new business, they are offering catering at special events like birthday parties, baby showers, graduations, family reunions and the like. Basically, almost any event is better with the addition of a snow cone! You can also request Party Pails. These offer smaller groups a chance to partake in the fun. Party Pails are just $45 and come with a cooler filled with 15 lbs of their special shaved ice, 3 bottles of flavor, fifteen 8oz cups, spoons and straws. These are perfect for backyard BBQs, children’s parties, or just an after dinner dessert with the neighbors! These can be delivered to Boulder City addresses. They are available for events and Party Pails every day, except Sundays.
