Dulce Varillas and Freddy Reyes were at Lake Mead, when a friend needed a pair of shoes to wear on the beach. They had stopped in Boulder City to see if they could find any, but were unsuccessful. That got them thinking about the type of store that would benefit both visitors and residents and the Boulder Outlet concept was born! They’ve been open for about six weeks now and have had lots of customers who are surprised at the variety and quality of items offered.
Most of the items are brand new, although there is a small area in the store for items refurbished by the manufacturer. Their stock comes from various big box stores like Target and Home Depot, as well as online retailers like Amazon. You can find housewares and appliances, clothing and shoes, makeup and beauty products, jewelry, outdoor and recreation items, power tools and scooters, and much more! The prices are reasonable, too.
Both Dulce and Freddy are no strangers to entrepreneurship. They also own a trucking business, which is helpful in moving products from other locations like Long Beach and Los Angeles, CA to their store here in Boulder City. They make weekly trips to California to find suitable merchandise for their store so there are always new items available for purchase. There are weekend specials on clothing and other items
“Starting a business is very hard,” Freddy told us. “You work a lot,” Dulce added. They’ve spent hours selecting products, getting them to the store, and setting them up. It wasn’t unusual for Dulce and Freddy to spend 18-20 hours a day getting ready to open the store. It’s calmed down a bit since then, and they’ve hired some part time employees to assist with the store, something that Freddy says is one of their goals going forward. “I want to bring jobs to this community. I want to give others the opportunity to be successful.” As a long time small business owner, he realizes the importance of passing along experience and wisdom to others.
They will be making their home here in Boulder City soon, which will greatly cut down on their daily commute! They are also looking forward to their Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting on Friday, August 11. Mark your calendars because there will be a DJ, giveaways, food, and more!
