Southwest Diner has been a popular staple on the Boulder City restaurant scene for more than thirty years now. Those of us who are, umm, vintage residents, remember when Cindy Ford started out at the old Frosty Freeze location (most recently Little City Grille). In 2008, she acquired the property at the corner of Fifth Street and Nevada Way that we’ve all loved and enjoyed. Her next door neighbors rotated in and out – over the years the space has housed a realtor, an art studio, a rock shop and more. But Cindy, ever the industrious businesswoman, found herself considering the building for an expanded restaurant.
In late 2023, the property was undergoing another transition and Cindy decided to make the leap and buy the location to expand Southwest Diner. The goal was to give the diner a new vibe with new seating, decor, and bar area, but with the same great service we’ve all come to love. One of the first things you notice when you walk in to be seated is the expanded seating area that’s so sleek and inviting. The bar is straight ahead and fully stocked with everyone’s favorite liquors and beers. They will be rotating a local beer every week or so, so be sure to try the “Dam Beer” while you’re there!
The “new side” of Southwest Diner opened July 4 of all days (if you’ve ever been to a Damboree parade, you know) to much enjoyment by the patrons. The “vintage side” of the diner is transforming into a gift shop, with take and go food items and other goods created by local artisans. There will be a new menu at the new Southwest Diner, but don’t fret, many of the faves made the leap as well. Personally, we’re looking forward to trying out some of the new items like the steaks, fish and wonton tacos they will be serving in the evenings! Additionally, they will be offering Happy Hour specials on drinks so be sure to ask your server about those. Another unique feature of the restaurant is a first responder area tucked just off the bar. Here you will find all sorts of memorabilia dedicated to local first responders.
The brand new. expanded menu will launch Tuesday, August 13 with a soft opening for diners and the grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, August 17.
Make sure you stop by soon to say hi to your favorite servers and try some of the new items on the menu, followed by a delicious slice of pie. Or check out the new drink menu with yummy beverages from the bar like Mama Ford’s Sweet Tea or a flight of mimosas. Also, don’t forget to order your fresh baked pies from Southwest Diner! They still offer food to go so you can order and pick up your food.
