Check out this Boulder City Bobcat!

And yet ANOTHER fun critter I did not know we had here in Nevada! And certainly not one Fan Francyl Gawryn probably thought would be hangin’ out on her porch last night!

Francyl emailed me this photo to share with ya’ll and said that this “not so little beauty” was a good foot and a half high. Check out those paws (which are “digitigrade”, by the way – meaning that bobcats walk on their toes and have sharp retractable claws).

I looked up bobcats on the Nevada Dept. of Wildlife website and found that there is a healthy population of bobcats around here and that they are typically 32 inches in total length…about twice the size of a domestic cat. The females usually weigh 18 or so pounds and the males weigh about 26 pounds. Their lifespan is 12-13 years and they like to live in ‘broken, rocky ledges’ about 100 feet off the desert floor (good shade and refuge for their young).
