I chatted with Victoria Mason, the Executive Director of the Senior Center of Boulder City the other day, just to see how things are going for them. Here’s what she had to say:
They are still closed to all of their communal meals and daily activities, but did you know they’ve been delivering between 130 – 140 meals daily, and continue to do so in their efforts to support our seniors in town.
She and her staff check in by phone to every single member each and every week to hear how they’re doing. She also says they are still giving out groceries from their pantry too, for those in need of some additional help.
What do they need? Drivers! She tells us that has been their pain point, especially here in the summer months when so many people leave town. Shifts are short, only 1 hour/day, and the times are: 10:45am – 11:45am and then from 12noon – 1pm. All you need is a reliable car, a valid drivers license, and a willing heart!
Victoria says she has been so appreciative of the community, where donations have continued to roll in from both organizations, such as the Boulder Dam Credit Union, as well as just everyday regular donations for us citizens in town. Way to go Boulder City!
When will they open? Naturally she doesn’t know. She says they are prepared with their tables spaced to be ready for a lunch serving whenever the Governor moves us into the next phase, she says at Phase 3 they will try to reopen for some limited services.
We just know how lucky we are to have this amazing organization here in town, with all of their amazing staff and volunteers to help our seasoned citizens here in Boulder City. THANK YOU!
