City Proposes 5% Utility Rate Increase for Next 3 Years
REVISION: The following story was edited on 07/29/2026 to clarify the Business Impact Statement process for businesses located within the City of Boulder City's service area.
The City of Boulder City announced on Thursday, July 23, 2026 that it is performing a business impact study on a proposed increase to utility rates for customers. The proposed increase is five percent (5%) each year, for the next three (3) years.  The City has indicated the rate increase would affect electric, water, and wastewater utilities. Landfill fees are not affected by this proposal. FCS Group, a City consultant, conducted a "comprehensive utility financial plan and rate study" and determined this increase is warranted to fund future capital improvement projects. The projects would "support reliability for the city's aging electrical distribution system" and fund future projects for the wastewater utility fund. Overall, the proposed increases are expected to raise $1.5 million for the projects. Based on the consultant recommendations, the Utilities Advisory Committee (UAC) on July 8 recommended a 5% annual increase in rates for electric, water, and sewer for the next three years. Businesses are encouraged to comment on the proposal by submitting comments in writing via email HERE or by using the online comment form on the city's website HERE. Alternatively, comments can be submitted by regular mail to:
