A few weeks ago we started a series of articles on the Clamper organization and the historical plaques they have placed around our area, honoring Boulder City’s history. (In case you missed the first one, you can read that HERE.)
For the second plaque we thought we’d visit the one at one of our most famous spots, Bootleg Canyon, and you can read a bit about that here below:
When we spoke to Mark Hall Patton though about this plaque, one of the things he told us is there is also a lesser known reason for this back-road route into Vegas. Not only was Boulder City dry, no drinking was allowed in the city’s borders back then, but the workers were not supposed to be found under the influence at all when in town. So this dark canyon was a way back into town for the workers who has been over in Las Vegas. A secret way to slip back home after their wild night.
You can see this located at the main Bootleg Canyon parking lot area near the bike paths located at 1512 Industrial Road, then follow the signs to the mountain bike area, you’ll see the parking lot on your right and a restroom building. The plaque is right in front of this area.
