Come Check Out the Library in May

MayEvents Boulder City Nevada

The Boulder City Library has a bunch of exciting events happening in May, not the least of which is their Literary Arts Fair happening Saturday, May 11 from 11:00AM to 3:00PM. Come listen to readings by dozens of authors and poets from the local area including Sarah Denton, John L Smith, and Boulder City Social’s own, Jean Widner! 

Friday, May 10 at 5:30PM will be the kickoff for the Summer Reading Program with storyteller Jim Cogan! Come meet Smokey the Bear and start off your summer reading quest. The program is offered through Beanstack and is open to children and adults. There are cool prizes to win and who doesn’t love summer reading?

The Library, located at 701 Adams Boulevard, will be closed Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day. The library’s regular hours are Monday thru Thursday, from 10:00AM to 8:00PM and Friday thru Sunday from 10:00AM to 5:00PM. The library has a website, which you can access by clicking HERE. There are eBooks, magazines, movies, music, and more available 24/7! You can also reach library staff during normal business hours by calling (702) 293-1281.

The library is also offering other fun events for all ages, as noted below:

Ages 0-5 Programs

  • Tuesdays at 10:30AM: Toddler Tuesday Storytime: Ages 1-3 and Caregiver, Board Room. Join us for stories, songs, and a coloring sheet.
  • Thursdays at 9:30AM: Early Risers Lapsit Storytime: Ages 0-2 and Caregiver, Community Room. Join us for stories and songs.
  • Fridays at 10:30AM: Drop In Storytime: Ages 0-5 and Caregiver, Board Room. Join us for stories, songs, and crafts.
  • Wednesdays, 5/22 & 5/29 at 10:30AM: Duplo Building Club: Ages 0-5 and Caregiver. Board Room. Join us for relaxing time spent building with Duplos.
Ages 6-11 Programs
  • Wednesdays at 3:30PM: Youth Yoga: Community Room. Stretch out and relax with friends.
  • Wednesday, May 8 at 3:30PM: Mother’s Day Craft Hour: Board Room. Make a fun gift for your mother. Sign ups required.
  • Tuesdays, 5/14 & 5/28 at 3:30PM: Lego Building Challenge: Community Room. We provide the Legos, you provide the imagination!
  • Saturday, May 18 at 1:00PM: Art Club: Community Room. Learn about art concepts and Start your own art to take home.
  • Wednesdays, 5/22 & 5/29 at 12:00PM: LEGO Book Club: Board Room. Listen to stories while building with Legos.
  • Thursday, May 23 at 1:00PM: Building Club: Board Room. Relax and Build with your friends.
  • Saturday, May 25 at 1:00PM: Hand Sewing for Kids: Board Room. Learn the basics of sewing. Sign ups required.
Ages 12-18 Programs
  • School Days at 2:00PM: Teen Time: Location Varies. Do an art project, play board games, and hang out with friends!
  • Tuesdays 3:00PM: Roleplayers Guild: Community Room.
  • Wednesdays at 3:30PM: Youth Yoga: Community Room. Stretch out and relax with friends.
  • Thursday, May 2 at 2:30PM: Teen Volunteer Meeting: Ages 12-18, Community Room. Learn what it takes to be a teen volunteer at the library and earn an hour of service credit!
  • Thursday, May 23 at 1:00PM: Youth Cooking Class, Community Room, Ages 10-16. sign-up to learn how to make an awesome trail mix. Sign ups required.
  • Thursday, May 30 at 1:00PM Teen Crafternoon, Community Room.
Family Programs

  • Tuesday, May 14 at 6:00PM: Come Write In: Ages 16+, Community Room. Join us for this creative writing workshop. All skill levels welcome.
  • Thursday, May 16 at 6:00PM: Crochet Skills Class: Flower Pot Coasters: Community Room. Sign ups required. Class runs 6:00PM to 7:30PM
  • Friday, May 17 at 5:30PM: After Hours Movie: Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (PG-13), Community Room.
  • Sunday, May 19 at 2:00PM: Fiber Arts Club: Ages 16+, Community Room. Learn from others and work on your projects with friends.

Nevada Humanities Program

Saturday, May 18th at 10:30am, Join local artist Judi Mae for a Washi Collage Class in the Community Room. See how she transformers Washi Tape into a unique piece of art honoring the Hoover Dam. Class space is limited, Sign ups required.
