Wondering what the construction is on Veterans’ Memorial Drive between Nevada Highway and Adams Blvd.?
I know I was, but it wasn’t until Fan Charli Powers asked the question on the Facebook page that I reached out for the scoop (so thanks, Charli)!
I fear it’s not WILDLY riveting…but it’s an access road being built by the Regional Flood Control District.
Brok Armantrout from the Boulder City Community Development Department answered the query with this info for us:
Just below the roadway and as part of the golf course and airport is a very large storm water channel with no hard surface way to get to it by the big heavy maintenance trucks and Vacto Trucks. The Regional Flood Control District is building this access road to service those channels (no city funds are being used to make the road).
During a big rain storm, this channel is quite the sight to see. At the end where it dumps into the desert it has carved out a mini-grand canyon. Cool – but to a point. The new access road will allow the maintenance trucks and vehicles to access the storm channel without damaging the golf course or create a hazard on the airport.
