Remember all the way back to Monday when I shared an article by Bob Moffitt on Capital Public Radio’s website about what happens to lost and surrendered property at several airports?
Mr. Moffitt reported that after Mr. Plott’s salary and expenses were paid, approximately $70,000 was donated to Emergency Aid of Boulder City. Guess who was REALLY surprised to hear this….the folks over at Emergency Aid!
Although we don’t know where Mr. Moffitt got that information (perhaps from Mr. Plott) – but when he was contacted by Emergency Aid – he edited his online article to remove any reference to the magical $70K. The article now just says that “City Finance Director Shirley Hughes says the general fund received $96,533 from the sales last fiscal year and about $84,000 the year before.”
[BTW, as a blogger myself, I think it’s totally bogus to alter the info in an article published online instead of owning up to an error and retracting it with a correction. Print writers have to publish retractions…so I believe it’s only fair to ask the same of online writers.]
Unfortunately, Mr. Moffitt’s ‘now-edited’ oopsy COULD cost Emergency Aid donations when supporters think they’re rolling in dough and don’t need more support. They had a number of people contact them over this past week to discuss the issue, so it’s been quite a challenge for them, I’m afraid.
So please allow ME to be the one to try to correct the mis-information in his article for all the BC Social Fans out there who saw Monday’s post: Emergency Aid does NOT receive any direct proceeds of the lost and confiscated articles program, as was previously reported and asks that their supporters still continue to support them. Wow…Bold and Red – now you know I’m all miffy about it, right?
Thanks and sorry about that, especially to EA and the folks that rely on them for help!!!
