The Silver State Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (pictured above) have installed a flag retirement bin at the Boulder City Library, located at 701 Adams Boulevard. Since today is Flag Day, we encourage you to inspect your flag for tears, fraying or other signs of wear before flying it.
We received this info from Regent Bobbi Ohlinger-Johnson of the Silver State Chapter:
“Rules on how to properly fly the flag were established in June 1923, when the National Flag Conference met in Washington. Its members created the Flag Code (4 USC), which states that “the flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing.”The flag code provides that the acceptable way to dispose of a flag is by burning, although burial is also acceptable. The Silver State Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution have installed a flag disposal bin at the Boulder City Library. We collect the flags for our annual unserviceable flag ceremony in May where they are burned.”
