Deadline Arriving to Participate in Complete Streets Virtual Meeting

The City of Boulder City invites residents to participate in a virtual meeting to give feedback on the Boulder City Parkway Project. The deadline for feedback is June 16, 2023. The area covered is Boulder City Parkway from Nevada Way to the Boulder City boundary as travelers head down the road to the Hoover Dam. Traffic over that stretch of road is approximately 11,000 vehicles per day, including fewer trucks, since the I-11 Bypass was constructed. This is a significant decrease in traffic and allows the City to develop the infrastructure to be more pedestrian and bike friendly.
One major concern for the roadway is speed. Since the bypass construction, a reduced number of vehicles has caused an increase in traffic speeds. The virtual meeting outlines several different methods for accomplishing this goal including reducing lanes and lane widths, adding traffic control features like roundabouts and medians, installing pedestrian access islands, and putting in landscape. All of these can have a calming effect on traffic. Residents are asked to provide their input on the various measures available.
The desire is to make the area more accessible to pedestrians and bicycles by incorporating paths and trails for access along the roadway. Different strategies are presented to the viewer to evaluate. You can provide feedback about the options during the virtual meeting. Some of the strategies include grade separation (bridges), dedicated bike lanes or shared use paths, undergrade (tunnels), etc. These will be important features included in the overall project.
As part of the trail system, several improvements are offered. These are really necessary to make the River Mountain Loop Trail an all purpose trail for pedestrians and bikers alike. Some of the amenities to be considered include fitness stations, drinking water fountains, bicycle repair stations, signage, shade shelters, and the like. Again, the viewer is asked to evaluate the various elements and provide feedback about the best options for the area.
Lastly, virtual attendees are asked to evaluate aesthetic features like railings, landscape, fencing, and public art. There are multiple options available to learn more about before making a decision.
City staff will take all the responses and aggregate them to see which features and amenities are the most popular with residents and parkway users.
The deadline to participate and provide feedback is Friday, June 16, 2023. Make sure you take the time to complete the survey and let your voice be heard. The virtual meeting is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to accommodate all residents. To access the meeting, click HERE. Additional comments can be submitted via email HERE. Those without computer or internet access are encouraged to use the free computers available at the Boulder City Library, located at 701 Adams Boulevard in ABC Park.
