Drama Club Stages Fun This Summer

Reverend Kimber Govett of the Boulder City United Methodist Church will be conducting a Drama Camp for children this summer. The camp is open to all children grades 3 through 12 and is free to participants. The camp will take place July 11-15 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Elaine K Smith Center. No auditions are required and all registrants will be permitted to participate. The camp is non-religious and requires no fundraising by participants.

Pastor Govett was previously a Director of Children’s Ministry at Peace Lutheran Church in Peoria, AZ where she started a similar program called Young Hearts Theatre Group. You can read more about that program HERE. Like the original program in Arizona, the Boulder City program focuses on encouraging youngsters to play, learn about performing arts, increase confidence, gain encouragement from peers, as well as adult mentorship.

Participants in the Drama Camp may elect to continue their studies and participate in a community production of Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, based on the 1950 novel by CS Lewis and 2005 film. Pastor Govett anticipates weekly meetings of the Drama Club, with a free show sometime in the fall. All students participating in the extended program will receive roles in the play and no auditions are required.

The location of the camp is the current home of the Boulder City United Methodist Church at the Elaine K Smith Center, located at 700 Wyoming Street. All adult volunteers are prescreened as part of the Safe Sanctuaries Program of the National United Methodist Church. Each volunteer must undergo and pass a background check and there are always two or more approved volunteers while children are present. To learn more about the child abuse prevention program, you can read more about it HERE. Parents of the children participating are always welcome to watch the Drama Club sessions, if they wish.

Pastor Govett hopes to make the Drama Club a community program that will help introduce the young people of Boulder City to the arts. The deadline to sign up for this summer’s camp is July 1, 2022. You can print out the registration form below, fill it out and mail to the address on the form. You may also email Pastor Govett HERE to request a registration form or to ask any questions about the program.
