For many of us, Ireland is a dream. The bucolic, pastoral scenes and bustling city vibes are something we think about experiencing but how to do so without falling into the traditional “tourist trap” locations that leave you with more questions than answers? This is where Ray Turner and Wild Irish Country Tours comes in. Ray, a native of Ireland, has been conducting tours for the past several years. We sat down with him to talk about this adventure.
Ray has lived in the United States since 1987. In that time, he’s spent most of it here in Southern Nevada, specifically here in Boulder City. A tile setter by trade, Ray also enjoys traveling. He realized that travel to Ireland meant he could not only visit some of his favorite parts of the Emerald Isle, but he could also share them with others. That’s how his tour business got its start. He now offers two tours per year for two full weeks for each tour.
The tours are scrupulously planned, but not rushed. Each day begins with a wonderful breakfast, followed by touring some of Ireland’s greatest offerings. You will see historic castles, centuries’ old cathedrals, and modern museums full of Irish history. There are archaeological sites, a boat tour on Killarney Lakes, musical performances at authentic pubs and restaurants, as well as free time to enjoy the various cities, towns, and rural areas that will be your destinations. Each tour allows for approximately seven evenings of cocktails and dinners with your host, Ray, and the rest of the group. Other meals will be on your own, giving travelers a chance to check out some of the local establishments as well!
History and arts remain the focus of the tours and you’ll absorb so much more traveling with an Irish native, than you would a commercial tour. Approximately 12-14 people attend the tours, so you’ll have a chance to get to know your delightful companions as you travel. Traveling with Ray means you’ll always be among friends at your various stops and the tours are a chance to meet other locals as well. The flight is a simple direct one to Dublin that takes about 10 hours. Once on Irish soil, you’ll be met by a bus and driver, who is also a guide on the tours and offers glimpses into the country you might not experience otherwise,
Deposits are now being taken for the fall tour, which includes a visit to the famous Clifden Arts Festival in September. We have included several photos of this beautiful tour, but you really need to check out the website HERE to get a full appreciation for the experience you’ll be booking with Wild Irish Country Tours. We especially encourage you to check out this link HERE to see a short video seven minute video about the adventure that awaits you!
