As has been the case since 2014, when the City Council approved Resolution 6124, the Eldorado Valley Dry Lake Bed recreation area will be closed from July 3 to July 5. In a press release, the City noted:
The closure prevents gatherings, littering and degradation that has occurred there in the past, when people left their trash and even human waste there. The presence of alcohol and use of illegal fireworks created public safety concerns and emergency response challenges for City police and fire departments…
The closure begins at 6:00AM on Thursday, July 3rd and will remain in effect until 6:00AM on Saturday, July 5th. The City emphasized that added police patrols will be on hand to ensure safety.
Spending a few dollars on a rideshare or taxi is a lot less costly than a DUI, which can amount up to $10,000 or more. A DUI arrest results in being in jail, having your car impounded, losing your driver’s license, potentially losing your job and most importantly, can result in injuries and the loss of lives. Never be too proud or embarrassed to ask for a ride. Allowing a sober driver to help you get home safely keeps you and others safe. Make the choice to never drive impaired. Every time you choose to get behind the wheel, lives are in your hands.
Have a safe and happy holiday!
