If you’ve lived in Southern Nevada for any length of time, you’re likely familiar with Clark County’s most famous desert tortoise, Mojave Max. Every winter, Mojave Max enters brumation (the tortoise equivalent of hibernation). As the weather begins to warm up, Mojave Max will make his first appearance of the new year. The Clark County Desert Conservation Program (CCDCP) is doing something special for this year’s big day. Because it’s the 25th anniversary of the Mojave Max program, CCDCP are hosting an emergence contest for any Clark County resident 18 and older. This contest is separate from the elementary school student contest.
What’s an emergence contest? Well, it’s pretty simple. Each person is allowed one guess as to the time and date that Mojave Max reappears. These guesses are compiled by CCDCP staff and whoever gets closest to the time and date, without going over, is the winner! While they haven’t announced what the prize package is, we’re sure it’s gonna be fantastic!
To enter the contest, click HERE and fill out the form. For more information about the contest, see the rules below. If you still have questions, you can reach out to Desert Conservation Program staff by clicking HERE. Good luck!
