Heads up, Fans … Lake Mead National Recreation Area issued a news release to advise everyone that a small explosive device was found at Lake Mead last weekend. The news release reads:
The device, which was the size of a ping pong ball, was found by a park employee who was cleaning the area at Longview Overlook off of Lakeshore Road. Law enforcement rangers were called to the scene, and the overlook was temporarily closed to visitors.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Bomb Squad confirmed that the small device was explosive and temporarily removed it from the park. The area was thoroughly searched for additional devices before the overlook was reopened. The incident is under investigation.
If a visitor comes across a suspicious device, they should maintain a safe distance and call 911.
