Fan Photo: Herb’s Tavern

Well now this memorabilia will bring back lots of memories for some! Herb and Fran Knauss were longtime residents of Boulder City. They owned and ran this tavern on Avenue B, where the current Back Stop Sports Pub is located. They coined the phrase “A Free Drink to Everyone Any Day the Sun Doesn’t Shine in Boulder City”. Rarely did they have to make good on that offer though, since we don’t have too many non-sunny days in Boulder City. We believe the Knauss opened the tavern in 1952 and it was sold sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s, when it briefly became Pat K’s Bar before its current incarnation as the Back Stop.

You may also remember that Fran Knauss also ran a boarding house at the corner of California Avenue and New Mexico Street for a number of years. Franny passed away in Colorado in 2018 and was preceded in death by her husband.

These items were brought to us by fan Ronald Martin, and what a fantastic collection showcasing a legendary Boulder City business! We thank him for sending this in to us. We always look forward to things like this to link us to our past and we’re thankful for our fans who share these treasures with us.
