Recently, residents on the lakeside of town, may have noticed this new resident, a Snowy Egret (Egretta Thula). Once hunted for their beautiful plumage, the birds have bounced back in population. This beautiful image, captured by our friend and Fan Diana McKay, shows off the regal beauty of the newcomer. Beware to those with shallow water features containing fish, like koi pods, as this traveler is known for foraging in shallow water. Snowy egrets also eat insects, some reptiles, snails and rodents.
