Noticed lately that Facebook pages you like have NOT been showing up in your News Feed? Annoying, right?
So here’s the deal: Just over a month ago, Facebook changed it’s algorithm to have Fan pages show up a LOT less in your News Feeds.
Why? Because they now force us (Fan pages) to PAY to get our posts into your News Feeds through things called “Promoted Posts” and “Sponsored Stories”. Bogus.
There’s a huge backlash over this from Pages and Fans alike, so we’ll see what happens, but in the meantime – it sounds like there is something you can do to pick which Fan pages updates that you want to show up in your News Feed. Here’s what to do:
Let’s assume that Boulder City Social is a Fan page that you want to have show up in your News Feed:
Step 1: Go to the Boulder City Social Facebook page (here) and look near the bottom right corner of the cover photo…you’ll see a little “gear” button with an arrow next to it.
Step 2: If you click on this, you’ll see “Add to Interest Lists”…so select that (creating your first new list if you need to). It puts the BC Social page in a special Interest Lists over in the left hand sidebar, which is good and hopefully, it will push more posts into your News Feed, too (but who knows).
Step 3: But check this out…Look at the “Liked” button just to the left of the gear button. If you hover your mouse over it, you’ll see a drop down menu containing “Show in News Feed”…seems to me that you’d also want that checked, right? So personally, I’d make sure that is checked also, just to be safe.
And anyway, if there is one thing we know about Facebook, whatever is the rule today…it will be totally different tomorrow!
p.s. – You’ll also see something called “Get Notifications”, which Facebook only rolled out in the last couple of days…you can click this to be notified when I’ve made a post…but general consensus is that it will be annoying for you to receive a notification for each post (times the number of pages you select this for)…but do as you will!
