At their special City Council Meeting this morning, the City Council canvassed the results of the 2024 Primary Election, held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. In the race for Boulder Township Justice of the Peace, long time resident, Christopher Tilman, was declared the winner after he received more than 50% of the votes cast in the primary. He will assume the role on January 1, 2025.
The City Council races for two vacant seats were a bit more complicated. Sherri Jorgensen, the incumbent for one of the seats on the council, has retained her seat, as she amassed more that half of all votes cast in that race. The second open seat was not able to be called until the end of the tabulation period. That’s because state law requires that mail-in votes postmarked on Primary Day by 7:00PM and received within four business days, must be counted. In this race, there will be a runoff in November between incumbent Matt Fox and challenger Denise Ashurst.
In “patting ourselves on the back” type of news, Boulder City registered voters once again made a strong showing in the primary with nearly 36% voter turnout. While that may not seem very high, it was one of the higher turnouts in Southern Nevada. Boulder City residents are very interested in participating in democracy. We think that’s something to be proud of.
Here are the final numbers for the City Council race:
